Summer break is the time when college students are rewarded for all of the hard work that they have put in during the preceding months. It's a time when everyone wants to kick back, relax and really let their hair down. But, if you are looking for a great summer break destination, then you really don't want to be living on Ramen Noodles while you enjoy the company of friends.
If you want to enjoy the summer break and not add to that already hefty student loan pressure, then here are some of the best budget destinations that you should be looking at for your next summer break.
#1 Myrtle Beach - South Carolina
Just because you are looking forward to enjoying the fun of a beach break, it doesn't mean that you immediately have to start counting the pennies. Myrtle Beach has 60 miles of clean sands and sea. It also has a huge variety as far as shopping is concerned and an ocean-side amusement park. Vacation rentals are a great value for money and as a bonus, some college students will even be able to drive to this summer break destination, saving a fortune on airfare.
#2 Daytona - Florida
Once one of the most popular summer break destinations, Daytona has made efforts to tone down the summer time mayhem, but it remains very popular with students. If you are willing to stay a couple of blocks from the waterfront, you can pick up great accommodation deals and enjoy some exceptionally priced restaurants.
#3 South Padre Island - Texas
This is another great ocean-side destination that has fabulous lodging at great prices and fantastic nightlife choices. It's usually a sleepy retreat, but during summer break, it is transformed into party central.
#4 Costa Rica
If you shop around, you can find great deals for accommodation in Costa Rica, but you will have to be savvy about it as most flight accommodations are pricey. Consider sharing rooms to get the best bang for your buck. There is tons of exceptional nightlife and surfing and beach life. Stay away from some of the tourist traps and you'll save big!
#5 Santo Domingo
It's the Caribbean! What more needs to be said? Stay out of the tourist pockets and you might be surprised at just how affordable the accommodations can be. Whether you enjoy great food, meringue dancing or an evening in the arms of Lady Luck at a casino, this destination has more than enough to take up your time.
#6 Puerto Rico
Not as frenzied as some of the other destinations, this is still a summer break option that should not be ignored. Fantastic food and nightlife, as well as great options when it comes to accommodation, this is an option for those who might want a more laid back summer break experience. Not only are the beaches great, but some flights can offer some great value.
#7 Playa del Carmen - Mexico
If there is one phrase that will make your eyes light up when planning summer break, it is "All Inclusive." Playa del Carmen has excellent all-inclusive accommodation offers, as well as boasting some fabulous value-for-money cuisine. Beautiful beaches and some of the best diving in the world round out the attractions of this magnificent destination.
Summer break time in Bermuda is an absolute dream come true. Magnificent beaches and warm waters beckon you to visit. Also, if you like golf and just shooting the breeze on the warm sands then put this one on the list as a possible choice.
You may have to dig a little deeper into your pockets for a summer break vacation in Jamaica, but it'll be worth every last cent. Great culture, magnificent beach life (you can even join in on a game of cricket with some locals!) and fabulous food, you cannot beat the scenery. What's not to love? Book (very) early and you might be able to get a bargain on a place to stay!
#10 Cancun - Mexico
The great granddaddy of both Spring and Summer break destinations, Cancun has built a reputation as a monument to hedonism. That said, it is possible to get away from the frantic activity. Hit the bars on the more isolated stretches of beach or head away from the crowds to enjoy perfect beach-lounging opportunities. Of course, there is also the authentic Mexican food. All-inclusive accommodation options are available at a price, but they may include food, drinks, and entrance to clubs and other nighttime attractions. Score!
You needn't break the bank to enjoy the summer break. Some planning and a bit of thought can help you get the elusive, value-for-money downtime that you need to recharge your batteries and back to college with new memories and a smile on your face!
