Meet Tom Scotty: a companion to his wife Carol of 25 years and an awesome parent to his three children who like to consider him Phil from Modern Family.
After 17 successful years at Macmillan, a top 5 higher education publishing company, Tom Scotty decided it was time to embark on a different path. Tom Scotty joined RedShelf as its current COO in April 2014 to further pursue his desire for driving revenue and profitable growth in educational publishing.
Prior to beginning his career in the education and technology industry, Tom was the Head Diving Coach at U.C.L.A from 1992-1996, where his teams won multiple championships and he earned numerous “Coach of the Year” honors.
But his true passion (besides golf, of course): accelerating the transformation from print course materials to innovative digital content, tools, and services for instructors and students.
“I take great pride in helping improve the academic lives and performances of teachers and students,” said Scotty when talking about his interest in education.
Serving as Macmillan’s Co-President since January of 2013, Scotty was responsible for driving revenue and profitable growth in North America. Scotty focused on accelerating Macmillan’s transformation from primarily a print educational publishing business to a premier provider of digital content. While there, Scotty also served on the Board of Directors for CourseSmart, which is a market leading digital content services company.
“As education in North America faces critical challenges in today’s economic environment, I believe there are significant opportunities for innovative technology-enabled solutions and partnerships that can benefit stakeholders within the ecosystem while further enhancing learning pathways and outcomes,” says Scotty.
